Laura English Robinson, Soprano

Tom Hooten, Trumpet

Trey Clegg, Organ

Three internationally acclaimed artists perform a concert of regal music from the Baroque era in this concert for soprano, trumpet, and organ.  Laura English Robinson, soprano, is an Atlanta icon.  She heads the Voice Performance program in the Music Department of Spelman College, and for many years has been a frequent recitalist and principal soprano in European and American opera companies.  Tom Hooten, trumpet, is the Principal Trumpet player in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and a well-known trumpet player all over the world.  He has performed as guest trumpet soloist with many symphony orchestras. Trey Clegg, organ, is the Director of Music/Principal Organist here at St. Paul’s, he sings in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Chamber Chorus, and he frequently performs solo organ concerts in the USA, Europe and the Caribbean Islands.

From the grand music of Bach and Purcell to Scarlatti and Handel, this promises to be an afternoon fit for a King!

The Chanda Leigh Jazz Quartet

Join us for a cool afternoon of jazz with The Chanda Leigh Jazz Quartet!  They will play jazz standards as well as modern jazz and original charts.  After a 1999 world tour with the grammy-nominated Reggae band, Morgan Heritage, Chanda returned to the USA to grace the big screen as she played keyboards in the Hollywood film, Coyote Ugly.  After a decisive move back to Atlanta to pursue her own jazz band, The Chanda Leigh Jazz Quartet, she also joined the music department staff here at St. Paul’s as the Director of the Gospel Choir, Voices of Praise.  You will not want to miss this funky, laid back afternoon!

Stages:  An Operetta

Rising opera stars Ann Marie McPhail, soprano, and Pamela Dillard, mezzo-soprano, perform Stages, a new operetta whose libretto deals with the various stages of life.  This promises to be an exciting and entertaining afternoon with these incredibly talented women.  In 2008, Ms. McPhail and Ms. Dillard both graced the stage of the Opera Comique in Paris in a critically acclaimed long run of George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.  Both women are professors of voice in the Music Department of Spelman College, and both women are staff singers in the Music Department here at St. Paul’s.  Come enjoy an afternoon of drama and fabulous music making!

Praise the LORD.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.

Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,

praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute,

praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD.

~Psalm 150
